LuxRise Support: Setup, Fixes, and Straight Answers

Welcome to LuxRise support. This page covers what people actually ask us: connecting Spotify or Apple Music, making sure your alarm rings, and getting the sleep timer working the way you want. If you don't have the app yet, it's free on the App Store, with no ads, no subscription, no catch.

Do you need Spotify Premium? LuxRise is free, but Spotify's own rules require a Premium account to play a full, exact track inside a third-party app. Apple Music needs an active subscription. Either way, if playback ever fails, your alarm still rings with a built-in backup sound.

Getting started

How do I set up my first music alarm in LuxRise?

Create a new alarm, pick your wake time, then choose any song or playlist from your connected Spotify or Apple Music account. That's it. At wake time, LuxRise raises your music gradually with its Fade In setting instead of blasting it at full volume. If you want a step-by-step walkthrough, including how this compares to the iPhone's built-in Clock app, our setup guide covers the whole process.

How do I connect my Spotify account?

When LuxRise asks you to connect a music service, choose Spotify and sign in with your own Spotify credentials. The sign-in happens on Spotify's own login screen, so LuxRise never sees your password. Once connected, every song and playlist in your Spotify library is available as an alarm sound or sleep soundscape.

How do I connect Apple Music?

Choose Apple Music when connecting a music service. iOS will show a permission prompt asking to allow LuxRise access to Apple Music. Tap OK. If you declined that prompt in the past, you can turn it back on in Settings > Privacy & Security > Media & Apple Music, then toggle LuxRise on.

Can I wake up to a playlist instead of a single song?

Yes. LuxRise plays any song or any playlist from your own Spotify or Apple Music account. This is one thing the iPhone's built-in Clock app can't do: it only accepts a single track. Playlists are great if you don't want the same song burned into your brain every morning.

Accounts & pricing

Is LuxRise really free?

Yes, completely. No ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no locked "premium" tier. You bring the music subscription you already have (Spotify or Apple Music), and LuxRise does the rest.

Do I need Spotify Premium or a paid Apple Music subscription?

LuxRise itself costs nothing. But the streaming services have their own rules: Spotify requires a Premium account for full-track playback inside third-party apps (that's Spotify's platform policy, not a LuxRise charge), and Apple Music playback needs an active Apple Music subscription. If your streaming account can't play for any reason, your alarm still rings with a built-in sound, so you're never left asleep.

Does LuxRise work with YouTube Music?

No. LuxRise connects to Spotify and Apple Music only. There's no YouTube Music support, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than let you find out at 6 a.m.

Is there an Android version of LuxRise?

Not currently. LuxRise is an iPhone app and requires iOS 18.6 or later.

What permissions does LuxRise ask for, and why?

Two things. Notifications, so your alarm can alert you and appear on the lock screen. And if you use Apple Music, the Media & Apple Music permission so the app can play from your library. Spotify users sign in through Spotify's own login instead. LuxRise has no sleep tracking and no snore detection, so there's nothing recording you overnight.

Alarm reliability & fixes

Will my alarm still ring if I lose Wi-Fi or my streaming service is down?

Yes. This is the thing we engineered hardest. LuxRise is built to ring no matter what. At wake time it tries to play your chosen song from Spotify or Apple Music; if the network is out, the service is down, or playback fails for any reason, it immediately falls back to a built-in alarm sound. So if you woke up to a default tone instead of your song, that was the fallback doing its job. Check your connection and make sure you're still signed in to your streaming account.

Why is Spotify not working in LuxRise?

Work down this list, testing your alarm after each step:

  1. Open the Spotify app itself and confirm it plays. If Spotify is down or your account has an issue, LuxRise can't stream from it either.
  2. Confirm your account is Spotify Premium. Spotify limits full-track playback in third-party apps to Premium accounts.
  3. Disconnect Spotify in LuxRise and sign in again to refresh the connection.
  4. Update both LuxRise and iOS.

Even mid-fix, your alarm will still ring: a failed Spotify connection triggers the built-in fallback sound, never silence. For more on waking up to Spotify, see our Spotify alarm guide.

My alarm didn't go off at all. What should I check?

Start with the basics: the alarm is switched on, the time isn't set to the wrong AM/PM, your iPhone was powered on overnight (no iPhone app can ring from a dead battery), notifications for LuxRise are allowed, and your volume is up. If all of that looks right, the culprit is usually an iPhone setting. Focus modes, Attention Aware, and Bluetooth routing silence more alarms than app bugs do.

Why does my alarm start quietly and get louder?

That's by design. LuxRise raises the volume gradually with its Fade In setting, because a song that swells from soft to full wakes you with less of a jolt than an instant blast. Give it a few seconds; it will reach full volume. If your alarm seems quiet even at its peak, the cause is almost always an iPhone volume setting.

Sleep sounds & privacy

How do the sleep soundscapes and sleep timer work?

LuxRise includes 8 curated soundscape playlists for falling asleep (rain, piano, lofi, healing frequencies, jazz, white noise, and lullabies among them), all streamed from your own Spotify or Apple Music account. Pick one (or use your own playlist), set the sleep timer to 15, 30, or 60 minutes, and playback stops automatically so music isn't running all night.

Does LuxRise track my sleep?

No. LuxRise doesn't do sleep tracking, sleep-cycle calculations, or snore detection, deliberately. It does two things well: wakes you with your own music, and helps you drift off with soundscapes on a timer. If you want sleep-stage data, your iPhone and Apple Watch already handle that in the Health app.
